Online event on the political future of Hungary
Around four weeks after the change of government in Hungary, EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt is hosting a digital information event on 29 April. MEP Daniel Freund will be analysing the opportunities and risks for the country under the new Prime Minister Péter Magyar from 7 pm. Interested citizens can join the online discussion directly without prior registration.
The political landscape in Hungary is undergoing profound change following the recent election. After 16 years under the leadership of Viktor Orbán, many questions are now being asked about the future direction of the country under the new Prime Minister Péter Magyar. EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt, together with other regional partners, is offering the opportunity to take a closer look at these developments and discuss them with an expert.
The evening will focus on the concrete effects of the change of power on Hungarian domestic policy and relations with the European Union. The main focus will be on the question of which reforms can realistically be implemented in the current situation and where existing structures from the Orbán era could be retained. European partners are particularly interested in whether cooperation with Budapest will be easier in the future and what impetus the new government will provide for European integration.
Daniel Freund was invited to speak at the event. The Member of the European Parliament has been closely following the political debates surrounding Hungary and the EU rule of law for many years. He will provide participants with a well-founded assessment of current events, focussing in particular on the topics of democracy, transparency and the fight against corruption.
