New wooden decking for the viewing platform in Mosse Citizens' Park

Around 37 square metres of wooden flooring replaced // The subfloor remains in place // Funded through eco-sponsorship

The viewing platform in Mosse Citizens' Park has been fitted with new oak decking. The old floorboards were replaced across an area of around 37 square metres, whilst the existing substructure was retained.

The 2026 structural inspection had revealed that the wooden decking on the viewing platform needed to be replaced in the near future. Consequently, the old decking was removed across the entire area and disposed of in accordance with best practice. New grooved oak planks were then fitted to the existing substructure. The planks are 55 millimetres thick and 140 millimetres wide; their grooved surface ensures a secure footing. They were fixed in place using stainless steel screws. A neoprene strip was also fitted between the decking and the substructure. The work has now been completed. As with the construction of the platform, the project was funded through the "Eco-Sponsoring" scheme.

The refurbishment is the result of the structural asset management programme that the City of Bocholt has established and continuously developed over the past three years. The city's civil engineering structures are regularly inspected as part of this programme. This enables damage to be identified at an early stage and necessary repairs to be carried out in good time. At the platform in Mosse Citizens' Park, only the part that actually needed replacing was renewed. It was not necessary to replace the entire structure. This conserves resources, and the existing structure remains in use.

The platform by the water is one of the most popular spots in Bürgerpark. Walkers and visitors to the park particularly enjoy spending time there during the summer months. Some spend their lunch break on the platform, whilst others even make use of the peaceful setting to work on their laptops. With its new surfacing, the platform is now ready for the years ahead.
