Physics show musical about future energies makes a guest appearance in Bocholt

A unique stage experience of music, theatre and science

On 22 November 2025, the physics show musical "Zukunftsenergien - Zukunftsmusik?" by the University of Bonn will be a guest at Bocholter LernWerk. The so-called phyusical combines theatre, live music and spectacular live experiments to create an energy-packed stage show about the energy transition.

In two free performances at 11:00 and 15:00, visitors can expect a 75-minute show that makes science tangible and emotionally accessible. The show is aimed at anyone aged 10 and over. No previous knowledge is required.

The mixture of humour, music and science has been delighting audiences since its premiere in Bonn. The performances in Bocholt are part of the Science Year 2025 Future Energy, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The format was developed by the Physics Show at the University of Bonn under the direction of Prof Herbert Dreiner and written by Dr Jana Heysel.

The phyusical is dedicated to the central questions of the future of energy:
How do we generate electricity sustainably? What role do heat pumps, hydrogen and fusion energy play? And how can science and society work together to shape the path to a climate-friendly future?

"We are delighted that the University of Bonn has approached us and that we are now able to welcome such a scientifically sound and entertaining project", says Jennifer Engels, Head of the Junge Uni in Bocholt, which is organising this event in Bocholt. "The special mix of musical and physics show is arousing curiosity - as we can see from the many registrations we have already received."

Isabel Testroet, Head of the Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre and Young University, is also delighted: "It's great that our city is being seen in this way. The fact that the University of Bonn is coming to us with its physics show shows that our STEM commitment is being recognised beyond the city limits. Collaborations like this encourage us to continue on our path with passion."

There are still a few places left for both performances. Registration is only possible via the homepage of the Junge Uni in Bocholt www.juboh.de

Science Year 2025 - Energy of the future

The Science Year 2025 is dedicated to the topic of future energy. What can an energy mix look like that is clean, reliable, affordable and conserves resources? What technologies have already been developed and what is currently being researched? What new energy partnerships does our country need? What will the energy supply of the future look like - and what impact will it have on society? The importance of research for achieving a climate-neutral energy supply in the economy and society is at the centre of the Science Year 2025. Energy research is an interdisciplinary, multi-layered, capital-intensive and strategic task. Climate change, limited resources and a simultaneously increasing global demand for energy present governments, industry and citizens with new challenges that research is addressing. The Science Year 2025 - Future Energy invites you to gain insights into solution strategies from energy research, learn about the latest innovations and findings and engage in dialogue with science, politics, business and society.

The Year of Science is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) together with Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD).
