"Brit Pic" - Stylish and delicious at the LWL Textile Works Bocholt

Chandeliers, gold rim dishes and numerous British delicacies on étagères were brought along by more than 50 fans to the British picnic. This was the third time that the "Brit Pic" took place on the tree-lined lawn on the banks of the River Aa right next to the LWL textile plant in Bocholt. The German-British Society Bocholt e.V., the City of Bocholt, the Tourist Information Bocholt and the EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt organised it as part of the Münsterland Picnic Days 2023.

The guests of the "Brit Pic" were welcomed with music by the Bocholt duo "get lost". Michael Angenendt on guitar and singer Jochen Küper delighted the picnic fans with English-language music. Both musicians belong to the band of the Old Dairy "Mälka".

Picnicking in the coronation year of Charles III.

Deputy Mayor Gudrun Koppers opened the third "Brit Pic" in Bocholt. "In the year of the coronation of Charles III and one day after the birthday celebrations "Trooping the colour" for the King in London, there is a typical British picnic here in our town", said Gudrun Koppers. She was pleased that so many guests had come and thanked the organising team. She addressed a special thank you to the museum restaurant "Schiffchen", which had prepared delicious little picnic bags for those who had bought a voucher at the Tourist Information Bocholt.

British like in London

"Welcome - Willkommen" flags of the German-British Society Bocholt waved at the guests from afar at the picnic site. The vice-chairwoman of the society, Ursula Rademacher, welcomed the picnic fans and thanked them for coming. "It's a bit like London on the Thames" she compared the beautiful location on the Bocholter Aa with the venues in the British capital. Three years ago, the Society organised the "Brit Pic" for the first time as an open-air event in Corona times.

British specialities served in style

Delicious delicacies from British cuisine were piled up on the numerous blankets and little tables. Cucumber sandwiches, scones and pies - all lovingly prepared by the guests themselves - were not just for their own families. People were also happy to invite their neighbours on the other picnic blankets to try them. In the past, the butlers of the rich British prepared the picnic. There was no shortage of special crockery, glasses and candlesticks. This British flair has remained with the "Brit Pic" to this day - even if the butler wasn't there this time!
