Franco-German exhibition in Aurillac: "Light in watercolour" delights the public
From 18 September to 19 October 2025, the French artists' group "Société artistique du Cantal" will be showing the exhibition "Light in watercolour - with a brush across Europe!" by artist Claudia Brunke-Gregory at the Théâtre d'Aurillac. She is a member of the Franco-German Society Bocholt and is exhibiting in the French twin town for the first time.
The vernissage on 23 September 2025 was very well attended and underlined the close friendship between Bocholt and Aurillac. "It was a very special moment to enrich our twin city with the watercolours of Ms Brunke-Gregory and to deepen the cultural ties", emphasised Wilfried Flüchter, who translated the opening of the exhibition. The exhibition was organised by the Franco-German Society Bocholt and the City of Bocholt following an idea during an official delegation visit by the City of Bocholt to Aurillc.
Large crowds of visitors at the exhibition opening
The media work in the run-up to the event generated a great deal of interest, so that many visitors came to the opening. Wilfried Flüchter travelled with the German-French Society Bocholt and not only translated the exhibition opening, but also the workshops with the group of artists, the citizens of Aurillac and the local grammar school "Lycée Emile Duclaux". The circle of friends "LesAmis des jumelages des communes d'Aurillac et d'Arpajon-sur-Cère" organised the host family accommodation for the Bocholt guests. Several cosy get-togethers deepened these new contacts with the French artists' group, who would like to exchange ideas with artists from Bocholt in the future.
In addition to the exhibition in the theatre in Aurillac, workshops, meetings and school projects took place. Pupils from the Lycée Emile Duclaux in Aurillac worked directly with the artist. "The cooperation with the schools is a benefit for the youth of both cities - this is where European friendship comes alive", emphasised Petra Taubach, European Affairs Officer for the city of Bocholt. Claudia Brunke-Gregory will be visiting a school in Bocholt after the autumn holidays to work artistically with the pupils there.
Support from the Franco-German Citizens' Fund
The exhibition is embedded in the 50th anniversary year of the Franco-German Society Bocholt and - made up for in 2022 - 50 years of town twinning between Bocholt and Aurillac/Arpajon-sur-Cère. It is supported by the Franco-German Citizens' Fund. This fund advises, networks and finances projects that bring Franco-German friendship and Europe to life for the general public.
