Exciting German-Dutch review of the year in the Koppelkerk

In the cosy "Boekencafé" of the Koppelkerk cultural centre in Bredevoort, a European review of the year took place last Friday with a focus on the Netherlands. The experts Prof Siebo Janssen (Bonn) and Hilbert de Wal (Maastricht) discussed their assessments of past and current events with the guests and the moderator.

The event "German-Dutch Year in Review" met with great interest in the region. Both Dutch and German residents on both sides of the German-Dutch border discussed the outcome of the elections in the Netherlands and the possible consequences for future policy in view of the current majority situation.

The experts categorised the events in a European context and incorporated the audience's comments directly into the discussion. Despite the current global upheavals, the evening ended on a positive note. Verena Winter (Grenzblickatelier Suderwick) contributed to this by emphasising that she had received fantastic entries from children and young people for her photo competition on the subject of "80 years of peace and freedom". She was therefore confident that the young generation would appreciate Europe's achievements and, above all, peace and freedom, and would stand up for them.

"The evening showed once again that exchange in a cross-border context is important and beneficial", said Sonja Wießmeier from EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt. As usual, everyone spoke in their own language, resulting in an interesting form of communication that is typical of the region.

The annual review was made possible by the Interreg Germany-Netherlands programme and its programme partners and co-financed by the European Union (EU). The municipality of Aalten, the city of Bocholt and the Europa-Union Bocholt e.V. also contributed to the funding.
