Strong, confident & self-assured: a workshop for women aged 60 and over

Free one-day workshop on 29 November at the LernWerk // Part of Orange Days 2026 // Self-assertion, de-escalation and self-defence // Register at the Senior Citizens' Office

Under the title "Strong, confident & self-assured", the town of Bocholt is inviting women aged 60 and over to a free self-assertion workshop at the LernWerk on Sunday 29 November. The event is part of Orange Days 2026. Places are limited, so registration with the Senior Citizens' Office is required.

The workshop "Strong, confident & self-assured - A day for me" will take place on Sunday, 29 November 2026, from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm at the LernWerk Bocholt, Industriestraße 1. It is being organised jointly by the City of Bocholt's Equal Opportunities Officer, Astrid Schupp, the City of Bocholt's Senior Citizens' Advisory Board and the Senior Citizens' Office. The workshop is part of the Orange Days 2026. These take place every year between the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November and Human Rights Day on 10 December, and serve to take a stand against violence against women and girls. Participation is free of charge.

Life in old age brings with it many freedoms and a wealth of life experience - but sometimes also new challenges. How do I move about safely in everyday life? How do I assert my boundaries in a potentially confrontational situation or whilst out and about? And how do I defend myself physically if necessary? On this special Sunday, participants will take time to focus on their own strength. In a trusting and relaxed atmosphere amongst women, they will learn practical tips and exercises that will give them a sense of security in everyday life.

The workshop is specifically aimed at older women who wish to learn how to present themselves more confidently and react appropriately in unpleasant or critical everyday situations. The course leader is a Level B trainer in self-assertion and self-defence, as well as a specialist trainer in conflict communication. She is also a training instructor for systemic aggression management and '"Protecting Yourself Without Fighting"' at sam-concept.

No prior sporting experience is required. Each woman takes part at a level she feels comfortable with. Personal questions and specific requests can also be addressed during the course.

The six-hour workshop is designed to provide older women with initial practical tools to help them remain as calm, self-assured and capable of taking action as possible in difficult situations. The focus is not solely on physical self-defence. Equally important are the early recognition of boundary violations, a confident demeanour and de-escalating behaviour.

Please bring comfortable clothing, trainers or similar footwear, and a positive attitude. Food and drinks will be provided. As places are limited, advance registration is required. Registrations are being taken by Ms Bußmann at the City of Bocholt's Senior Citizens' Office by telephone on 02871 953 2342 or by email at seniorenbuero(at)bocholt(dot)de.
