The special film "The penguin of my life"

Charming comedy on Tuesday, 10 June 2025 // 8 pm at the Kinodrom // Admission 7 euros

On 10 June, the city of Bocholt is presenting an extraordinary comedy as part of the "The Special Film" series. The true story in "The Penguin of My Life" shows how a teacher in Argentina gets into chaotic situations when he rescues a penguin.

The protagonist Tom Michell (played by Steve Coogan) takes up a position as an English teacher at an elite Argentinian school in 1979. He could hardly have chosen a more turbulent time to take up his post: in his very first week, the government under Isabel Perón is overthrown in a military coup. To escape the unrest, he and a colleague friend decide to travel to neighbouring Uruguay.

When he tries to impress a woman during his holiday, Tom rescues a penguin from an oil field. However, the bird proves to be very affectionate and never leaves his side. Despite all his attempts to get rid of the penguin, he finally has no choice but to take it with him to Argentina and hide it in the school.

Tom soon realises that the penguin, named "Juan Salvador", gives him unexpected access to his unmotivated pupils, marking the beginning of an unconventional friendship - Responsibility for the Animal creates a heart-warming and amusing bond between the withdrawn teacher and his pupils.

The film lasts 112 minutes and was directed by Peter Cattaneo. The trailer and tickets are available at www.kinodrom.de.
