The new Syria: Donations handed over

340 euros for the SHIFAA campaign "Hand-in-Hand for Syria"

The city of Bocholt has now officially handed over a donation from the evening event "The New Syria" to the SHIFAA campaign "Hand-in-Hand for Syria". A total of 340 euros was raised through admission fees, catering and additional donations on the evening of the event. The money will support medical missions and urgent operations in Syria.

The money was raised as part of the information event "The New Syria - A Journey through a Country in Transition". The live report with journalist Lutz Jaekel on 21 March 2026 provided citizens with detailed insights into the current situation in the country. The total proceeds were made up of the admission fees collected, catering during the interval and other voluntary donations from participants.

The initiative is jointly organised by the Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre, Bocholt's integration officer Bruno Wansing and the Bocholt Volunteer Agency. This cooperation has created a format that combines information and humanitarian aid. With such events, the city of Bocholt specifically promotes dialogue and civic involvement in international aid projects.

"Many thanks to everyone who donated", said Björn Volmering, First City Councillor of the City of Bocholt, delighted with the successful event.

The donations will go to the SHIFAA campaign "Hand-in-Hand for Syria" of the Syrian community in Germany e.V., which will fly doctors to Syria again in April 2026 to carry out urgently needed operations.
