Reading at LernWerk: In memory of Regine Hildebrandt
An evening for the "Mother Courage of the East" // Barbara Hackenschmidt reads at LernWerk
The Bocholt Rhede Isselburg Adult Education Centre in cooperation with EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt invites you to a contemporary history reading at the LernWerk. On Monday, 23 March 2026, from 19:30, the focus will be on the work of the East German politician Regine Hildebrandt. The event will shed light on the growing together of East and West as well as European values.
The focus is on the life of Regine Hildebrandt - a woman with attitude, heart and humour. As an East German politician, she played a decisive role in shaping the period after reunification. She passionately campaigned for social justice and gave people a voice during a period of great upheaval. Her work also symbolises a piece of lived European history: the overcoming of borders, solidarity and the growing together of East and West - values that also underpin today's Europe. Especially in turbulent times, Regine Hildebrandt's life is a reminder of how important courage, dialogue and cohesion are for a peaceful Europe.
Barbara Hackenschmidt reads from the book about Regine Hildebrandt and brings her words and personality to life. Photos from the book and personal anecdotes make the evening vivid and approachable. Frankfurt snacks will be served to create an open, convivial atmosphere.
Admission is free of charge. For organisational reasons, please register in advance. Further information is available from the VHS Bocholt office, Industriestr. 1, the Rhede and Isselburg branches or via vhs.bocholt.de.
