Placebo theatre brings democracy to the stage

On Wednesday, 1 October 2025, at 6.30 pm at LernWerk Bocholt, Placebotheater Münster will show just how lively democracy can be. To mark the 35th anniversary of German reunification, the Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre, Stadttheaterverein Bocholt e.V. and Europe Direct Bocholt invite you to a special evening of improvisation.

The multi-award-winning ensemble - including the Cologne Gloria Crown and the City of Münster Improv Cup - has stood for spontaneous entertainment at the highest level for over 25 years. Without a script, but with plenty of wordplay, facial expressions, gestures and musical accompaniment, the artists react at lightning speed to the audience's ideas. They play an active role in shaping the evening: The audience itself decides what happens when a divorce suddenly becomes a celebration or emotions merge between melancholy and exuberant joy.

Improvisation thrives on participation - and this is precisely what makes this form of art an ideal symbol of democracy.

The event is part of the project "Shaping Diversity - Participate. Learn. Develop. (Er)Leben." and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
