Lecture on electric mobility

VHS Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg invites you to the Media Centre // Thursday, 5 November 2026

The Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre is hosting a talk on Thursday, 5 November 2026, on the topical subject "Electric cars - Why buying a new petrol, diesel or hybrid car isn't a good idea". The speaker, Michael Birkhan, will cover all aspects of electric mobility during the evening. Participants are warmly invited to ask questions.

Drawing on 11 years of personal experience driving an electric car across Europe, speaker Michael Birkhan addresses the question in his talk as to why around 75 per cent of Germans still buy internal combustion engines or hybrids. In the speaker's view, the cost-effectiveness, environmental benefits, reliability and comfort of a fully electric car are significantly better than those of combustion engines (including hybrids), even if charging is only possible at public charging points and there is no private parking space with a charging point available. Long-range electric cars can be purchased as nearly new vehicles for under €20,000 and often still have full battery capacity and better warranty terms than combustion engine cars.

The talk will cover in detail the topics of carbon footprint, cost-effectiveness, battery technologies, charging tips, buying versus leasing, as well as myths and facts about electric mobility. Those who have already made the switch will receive information on public charging and simple payment methods that do not require the use of a mobile phone.

The event will take place at the Medienzentrum, Alter Bahnhof Bocholt, Hindenburgstr. 5. It starts at 7 pm. The participation fee is €6. Online registration at www.vhs.bocholt.de secures your place. Any remaining tickets will be available at the box office.
