JUNGE UNI Bocholt presents programme for the 2026 summer semester

Discover, try out, help shape: The 2026 summer semester of the JUNGE UNI in Bocholt (JUBoh) combines tried-and-tested programmes with exciting new courses, excursions and collaborations. Children and young people aged 6 to 18 can once again look forward to a diverse STEM programme that awakens curiosity, strengthens self-motivation and opens up future prospects.

The new JUNGE UNI in Bocholt (JUBoh) programme will be officially available from 5 February 2026. In order to give families the necessary time to make a joint selection, registration will not start until 10 February 2026 at around 8 am. This deliberate period of time allows parents to view the programmes together with their children and young people and select courses that match their individual interests. The city of Bocholt attaches great importance to the fact that the decision to participate comes from the young people themselves in order to ensure a high level of intrinsic motivation. "It is important to us that children are not simply enrolled somewhere, but that they decide on the programmes themselves. The aim is intrinsic motivation, i.e. genuine self-motivation to take part in the courses", explains Jennifer Engels, Head of JUBoh.

The 2026 summer semester will focus on the STEM fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. The programme is aimed at a broad target group aged 6 to 18. In addition to tried-and-tested courses, the programme includes attractive excursions, such as a trip to the Gasometer Oberhausen for the exhibition "Mythos Wald" or a visit to Vischering Castle including a workshop. Creative and logical challenges such as learning the Rubik's cube are also part of the semester programme.

A major focus this semester is on intensified cooperation with the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences. This cooperation is creating new formats, especially for older young people, which offer a realistic insight into the study atmosphere and various degree programmes. Topics such as lightweight construction, measuring techniques and programming expand the technical profile and are intended to show young people that the programmes offered by JUNGE UNI provide valuable professional and technical orientation points for the future.

As part of Girls' Day on 23 April 2026, JUBoh is also setting a special example for women in science. In collaboration with Kinodrom Bocholt and the Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre, the film "Picture a Scientist - Women of Science" will be shown. This event serves as a tribute to female scientists and is intended to encourage young women in particular to pursue careers in technical or scientific fields.

The ceremonial start to the new semester will take place on 20 February 2026 in Lecture Hall 1 at the Westfälische Hochschule in Bocholt. Starting at 5 p.m., weather and climate expert Frank Böttcher will take attendees on an adventure trip through the world's weather patterns. The start of the year will be accompanied by musical contributions and graphic recordings. Pupils from Mariengymnasium will also be presenting their project "Wurminator", which was created as part of the "Schüler macht MI(N)T!" initiative.
