Architecture Day: LernWerk Bocholt opens its doors

National Architecture Day on 27 and 28 June 2026 // Free viewings and expert-led tours // Photo exhibition in the LernWerk annex "Appendix"

As part of this year's Architecture Day, the LernWerk Bocholt will open its doors to the public on Saturday 27 June and Sunday 28 June 2026. Interested members of the public can visit the striking building on both days from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm. The free programme includes guided tours led by experts and the exhibition "Photographic Positions", specially designed for this occasion, in the modern extension.

On the last weekend in June, contemporary architectural culture takes centre stage across the country. The town of Bocholt is taking part in this initiative and, with the LernWerk, is bringing a significant local building project to life for all generations. The historic building, which today serves as a vibrant centre for education and culture, combines industrial history with modern architecture and offers a space for people to meet and exchange ideas.

"Architecture only comes to life through the people who use it", explains Jule Wanders, Head of the Culture and Education Department at the City of Bocholt, "Architecture Day offers an excellent opportunity to showcase the successful transformation of this historic industrial site into a modern educational centre for the public."

A particular highlight of the programme is the specialist guided tours, which will be led directly by the architect responsible for the project, Manuel Heywinkel from the Wuppertal-based firm acms-Architekten. The tours will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 am, 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm. The meeting point for all participants is the foyer in the central entrance area of the LernWerk. During the tours, guests will gain exclusive insights into the planning phase, the construction process and the architectural features.

Another key highlight of the programme is the exhibition, designed especially for this weekend, in the so-called Appendix, the building's modern extension. Entitled "Photographic Positions", this exhibition offers an in-depth and multi-layered exploration of the building and its surroundings. The photographic and design works on display engage artistically with the site, shed light on its profound transformation into today's cultural centre, and open up entirely new perspectives on the local architectural culture for viewers.

Access to all events as part of Architecture Day is free of charge. No prior booking or registration is required to take part in the guided tours or simply to visit the exhibition. All interested participants are invited to explore the building on their own or as part of the guided tours and to find inspiration on site.
