Guided tours and stumbling stone tours now bookable

City museum publishes dates for 2026

The city of Bocholt will once again be offering public tours on the history of the Bocholt city forest camp in 2026. New to the programme from this year are also stumbling stone tours, which can also be booked online. The Bocholt City Museum is thus expanding its guided tour programme on local Nazi history.

The Bocholt city forest camp bears witness to one of the most eventful chapters in Bocholt's history. As the site of the Austrian Legion, as a prisoner of war camp during the Second World War and later in its use as a "Palestine Transit Camp", the site still tells of the political upheavals of the 20th century, of the lives of the people of Bocholt during the war and of the aftermath of this period.

The Stolperstein tours are dedicated to the small brass plaques laid on the pavements, which commemorate people who were persecuted, deported and murdered during the Nazi era. The Stolpersteine are part of the largest decentralised memorial in the world and can also be found in many places in the city of Bocholt.

As part of the guided tour, participants visit selected Stolpersteine and learn more about the fates of the people they commemorate. It becomes clear that the history of the Nazi era did not only take place in distant, large cities, but also right here in our neighbourhood.

All public tours are free of charge. However, prior registration is requested. Further information on bookings and private tour enquiries can be found on the Stadtmuseum website or by calling 02871 / 953-2171.
