BOHJazz series starts the new year with baritone saxophonist Marcus Bartelt

Christian Hassenstein Trio welcomes Marcus Bartelt // Free jazz concert on Thursday evening

The city of Bocholt invites all those interested in music and those who have made up their minds at short notice to the musical kick-off of the new year tomorrow, Thursday, 8 January 2026, in the LernWerk annex. The renowned baritone saxophonist Marcus Bartelt will be on stage together with Christian Hassenstein's trio. Admission to the event is free of charge.

The established BOHJazz series offers high-calibre jazz music every two months in the special atmosphere of the LernWerk annexe at Industriestrasse 1, accessed via the side of the Bocholter Aa. The concert starts at 8 pm and promises to be an atmospheric evening in which the well-rehearsed trio of jazz guitarist Christian Hassenstein meets the deep, warm sounds of the baritone saxophone. It is not necessary to book in advance, so spontaneous guests are also very welcome.

Marcus Bartelt, a versatile and internationally sought-after musician, has been recruited for this first concert of the year. The Cologne-based saxophonist and woodwind player can look back on an impressive career. After his studies in Hilversum and his time in the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra under Peter Herbolzheimer, he firmly established himself in the German and international jazz scene. Since the mid-1990s, he has worked with greats such as Bob Brookmeyer, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Chilly Gonzales. He is also known to a wider audience through his involvement in TV productions and collaborations with artists such as Udo Jürgens and Stefan Raab.

Bartelt is also the founder of the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra and has released several albums of his own, including works with pianist Martin Sasse. Visitors can look forward to an interplay that combines experience and joy of playing.

The event is made possible thanks to the support of Stadtsparkasse Bocholt, which promotes the city's cultural programme and guarantees free admission.
