On 3 March 2027, we'll be celebrating the 125th Bocholt Jazz Evening! This fantastic concert series has been running since 1999; it began in the Kinodrom bar and has now found its home in the wonderful Alte Molkerei. And indeed, a very special guest will be joining us for these celebrations: the New York-based Italian pianist Rossano Sportiello. Rossano is a fascinating musician who, stylistically, can draw on the vast spectrum of the jazz piano tradition - from the early days of stride piano through swing to the dawn of modern jazz in the style of a Bill Evans. One thing is certain: it always swings with the finest touch! An anecdote from New York: the famous piano teacher Abby Whiteside celebrated her 90th birthday in 2014 surrounded by her pupils, including jazz superstars such as Brad Mehldau, Barry Harris and Fred Hersch. Naturally, they all played for their teacher at the grand piano; Rossano was also present and played a jazz standard in the stride style… after which, it is said, nobody else dared to play.

Sportiello has been working for many years with the Dutch saxophonist Frank Roberscheuten in the group "Three Wise Men"; Henning Gailing from Cologne on double bass and Dominik Raab on drums complete the "anniversary quartet%$.
