City of Bocholt informs about new development area in Barlo

The city of Bocholt invites all interested citizens to a public information event on Thursday, 9 October 2025, at 7 p.m. on the planned new development area in Barlo. The event will take place in the Wissing-Flinzenberg hall. Registration is not required.

A new development area is planned on the former cinder pitch of DJK Barlo. The aim is not only to realise traditional detached houses, but also to enable new forms of housing that strengthen village coexistence if there is interest from the population. Community housing projects such as micro or multi-generational living are conceivable.

"It is particularly exciting that the initiative was launched by the village community itself", explains Dave Welling, the town planning officer. "We want to shape this path together with the people of Barlo and present different housing models."

The City of Bocholt's Department of Urban Planning and Building Regulations will present the plans. The city will be supported by a number of Barlo residents who have been actively involved in the planning of the new development area with the project idea. The event will be rounded off by guest lectures on example projects from the region. The aim of the evening is to find further supporters who can imagine working on a community housing project.

A section of the development area could be allocated as part of a conceptual award - with a particular focus on intergenerational and community projects. In contrast to the traditional allocation of municipal plots, the remaining plots in the new development area will be allocated in the form of a so-called "local model", in which the building land is allocated to local residents in Barlo.

The city of Bocholt is looking forward to lively participation and an open dialogue about the future of the development area.
