Training series offers help in dealing with dementia
Courses offered by the Bocholt Dementia Network start at the end of January 2026 // Registration now possible at the Bocholt senior citizens' office
From 31 January 2026, the Bocholt Dementia Network will be offering a new series of training courses aimed at family carers and prospective dementia carers. The aim of the subsidised offer is to facilitate the care of people with dementia and improve the quality of life of all those involved through in-depth knowledge and practical aids. Interested parties can register now at the city council's senior citizens' office.
A diagnosis of dementia often means a profound change in lifestyle and often triggers feelings of powerlessness or overwhelm among relatives. Helpers face complex challenges in order to enable those affected to lead a dignified and fulfilling life. This is where the Bocholt Dementia Network comes in with a new series of training courses sponsored by AOK NordWest. By acquiring background knowledge and becoming better attuned to the feelings, thoughts and actions of those affected, carers experience noticeable relief in their everyday lives.
In the comprehensive basic qualification programme, participants are intensively prepared for their tasks. The focus is on understanding the needs of people with dementia, responding appropriately to the situation and learning about suitable activities. The course is aimed equally at family carers and members of the public who would like to volunteer as dementia carers.
The course runs from 31 January to 24 March 2026 and takes place in different locations around Bocholt. The course comprises seven evening events, which are held on Tuesdays from 5:45 pm to 9:00 pm, as well as two half-day events on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Upon successful completion, graduates receive a certificate in accordance with § 45 SGB XI, which qualifies them to provide additional care and respite services.
A fee of 50 euros is charged for participation in the training programme. Registrations are accepted by the city of Bocholt's senior citizens' office. The contact person is Marie-Therese Brand, who can be contacted on 02871 953-2234 or by email at seniorenbuero(at)bocholt(dot)de.
