FW Bocholt: Vehicle fire on Hemdener Weg
FW Bocholt (ots) -
A diesel-powered vehicle caught fire whilst in motion. The driver managed to pull over to the side of the road in time and get to safety. A local resident who is a member of the volunteer fire brigade attempted to act as a first responder using his own fire extinguisher. However, due to the flames already being too large and the strong wind, this was unfortunately not possible for reasons of personal safety. Our crew then moved in wearing full breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire. A protective layer of multi-purpose foam was also applied. Traffic control measures were implemented in collaboration with the police. An ambulance provided valuable support during the initial phase.
No hazardous operating fluids were released as a result of the fire.
Once the fire had been extinguished, the scene was handed over to the police, who arranged for a breakdown service.
The vehicle is a total economic write-off and is estimated, subject to change, at 12,000 EUR.
