FW Bocholt: Unclear smoke development in the attic of three apartment blocks
Bocholt fire brigade (ots) -
The Bocholt fire brigade was called to an unclear smoke situation in an apartment block on Dinxperloer Straße at around 18:50.
When the first emergency services arrived, smoke was detected in the unfinished top floor of one of three terraced apartment blocks. As there was initially no sign of a fire, a team wearing breathing protection was deployed with a C-tube for further investigation in the attic. At the same time, the roof area was explored with the help of the turntable ladder. The other two apartment blocks were also checked in the attic. Smoke was also detected here.
Due to the unclear situation, additional members of the volunteer fire brigade were alerted and, in conjunction with the police, all flats were evacuated as a precaution. The residents were looked after by the police for the duration of the operation.
Finally, a chimney in one of the houses was identified as the cause of the smoke in the attic. This was extinguished, the attic floors were cleared of smoke using a fan and all flats and their occupants were checked.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the operation. The Bocholt fire brigade and the rescue service were deployed for around two hours with 8 vehicles and around 30 firefighters.
During the operation, basic protection was provided by other volunteers at the fire and rescue station.
