FW Bocholt: Gas cylinder explodes in Biemenhorst - pieces of the stove are hurled up to 10 metres away

FW Bocholt (ots) -

On Sunday, 11 October 2026, at 5.14 pm, the Bocholt Fire Brigade was called out to an incident on the street "Im Kamp" in the Biemenhorst district, with the code "Fire". A report had been received of a burning gas cylinder on a catalytic heater.

Before the fire brigade arrived, the 11kg gas cylinder exploded, tearing the catalytic heater apart. The force of the explosion scattered pieces of the heater over an area of around 10 metres. Parts of the metal casing even landed on the garage roof of a neighbouring property.

The owner had reacted prudently beforehand and pushed the catalytic heater, with the burning gas cylinder still attached, out into the garden. This may have prevented even greater damage.

No one was injured in the incident.

The Bocholt Fire Brigade was on the scene with a total of 11 firefighters and 4 vehicles.
