FW Bocholt: Forest fire in Bocholt - Barlo
Bocholt (ots) -
At around 2.20 pm, the fire and rescue services of the city of Bocholt were alerted to a forest fire on the Kotts Stegge road in the Barlo district.
Due to the reported unclear location, the Rhede volunteer fire brigade was also alerted at the same time.
On site, a ground fire was burning in a wooded area covering an area of approx. 400 m².
Firefighting was immediately initiated from three sides with a total of seven nozzles. This quickly prevented the fire from spreading further.
Special forest firefighting tools were used for the post-extinguishing work in order to reach the embers in the ground.
Nobody was injured.
A drone with a thermal imaging camera from the Bocholt fire brigade was used in parallel with the firefighting operation. This made it possible to recognise pockets of embers from the air and direct the extinguishing measures accordingly.
In total, the fire brigades from Bocholt and Rhede were on site with ten vehicles and 40 firefighters.
In this context, the fire brigade would like to point out the increased risk of forest fires due to the current dry weather conditions and asks the public to act with caution, also in view of the long May Bank Holiday weekend.
(Forest fire risk index 3 out of 5, grassland fire index 4 out of 5)
