FW Bocholt: Fire with human lives in danger in Bocholt city centre
Bocholt fire brigade (ots) -
The Bocholt fire brigade rescues several people from an extensive flat fire in an apartment building on Langenbergstraße in Bocholt city centre.
At 05:52, the Bocholt fire brigade was alerted to a fire in Langenbergstraße via several emergency calls. On the basis of the report described, in addition to the full-time fire brigade, volunteer firefighters were also alerted under the keyword "fire, human life in danger".
When the first firefighters arrived, a flat on the first floor of the apartment block was fully engulfed in flames. Flames were shooting out of the windows of the affected flat at the rear of the building. On the third floor, three people made themselves noticed at the window. As a result, two teams wearing breathing apparatus were immediately deployed to rescue the people in the building.
At the same time, firefighting was initiated from the outside via the rear of the building using the garage roofs and the second turntable ladder.
A total of three people were rescued from the building. In addition to the fire brigade's operational measures, due to the initially unclear number of patients, several ambulances including several emergency doctors were dispatched to the scene under the heading of a mass casualty incident. The three people rescued were transported to Bocholt hospital after receiving initial medical treatment from the ambulance service. Six other people were medically examined at the scene and also attended to by the emergency services.
As the operation progressed, the neighbouring buildings and the other flats were checked for the spread of fire and smoke. Smoke was detected in the neighbouring building. The affected residential unit was cleared of smoke.
Due to the fire, the apartment block in question is currently uninhabitable. The public order office is organising accommodation for the people affected.
The Bocholt fire brigade and the rescue service were deployed for several hours with around 80 firefighters.
