FW Bocholt: Construction site containers are ablaze and suspicious smoke has been reported
FW Bocholt (ots) -
In the Wüppings Weide industrial estate, three site huts were ablaze during the night leading into Wednesday. The smoke drifted a long way along the B67 towards the town centre.
The Bocholt Fire Brigade responded with four vehicles and 12 personnel.
The fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the nearby water supply in the new section of the industrial estate. The frontline crews protected themselves with heavy breathing apparatus.
The damage is estimated at approximately 60,000 EUR. No one was injured. Due to the weather conditions, the smoke from the fire triggered a separate emergency call from a company in the north of Bocholt. The volunteer fire brigade was alerted to this incident, which was reported as 'suspicious smoke'. Thankfully, nothing was found on site, and the cause of the parallel call-out was determined.
The scene at Wüppings Weide was handed over to the police, who have asked the criminal investigation department to investigate due to the unclear cause of the fire.
