FW Bocholt: A busy start to the new year for the Bocholt fire brigade
Bocholt fire brigade (ots) -
As expected, the new year started with numerous operations for the Bocholt fire and rescue service. In the period from 31.12.2025, 08:00 a.m. to 01.01.2026, a total of 39 operations were handled by the emergency services on duty.
Unfortunately, there was an attack on emergency services personnel during an operation. Two firefighters were slightly injured, but were fortunately able to continue their duties.
The fire brigade was called out to 12 fires, most of which occurred between 00:00 and 05:00. Most of these involved burning paper containers and hedges. There were also several false alarms at properties with fire alarm systems. A family on Rheder Straße had a stroke of luck. At around 01:00, attentive citizens reported a fire in rubbish bins standing directly against the wall of the house. The fire destroyed parts of the façade and the smoke from the fire travelled into the ground floor of the house via an exhaust vent in the kitchen. Fortunately, the residents were able to leave the house unharmed after being woken up by the fire brigade. The fire was quickly brought under control. The entire house was then cleared of smoke by the emergency services.
Shortly before the end of the shift, there was a fire in a garden shed in the Suderwick district. The Suderwick fire engine from the Bocholt fire brigade was also deployed in addition to the emergency services on duty.
On New Year's Eve, the full-time firefighters were supported by volunteers manning two additional vehicles. The city of Bocholt's rescue service was reinforced by an ambulance from the Maltester Hilfsdienst.
This meant that a total of 33 firefighters and rescue workers from the fire brigade and the rescue service were deployed on New Year's Eve.
