Finissage of the exhibition "FREIHEITSSTROM" on 8 November in Doetinchem

Finissage on 8 November // Review of 8 sculptures between freedom, peace and cultural currents // Registration required by 6 November

The German-Dutch art project "FREIHEITSSTROM - VRIJHEIDSSTROOM" will come to a festive conclusion with a finissage on Saturday, 8 November 2025, at 4.30 pm in the Stadsmuseum Doetinchem. All those interested in art, peace and cross-border co-operation between Bocholt and Doetinchem are invited.

The project was opened in Bocholt on 8 May 2025 to mark the anniversary of "80 Years of Peace & Freedom" - as an initiative of the city of Bocholt and the Dutch Gemeente Doetinchem in cooperation with the city museums of both cities. Eight artist tandems from Germany and the Netherlands worked together to create eight sculptures that focus on freedom, peace and cultural solidarity. The rivers Bocholter Aa and Oude IJssel connected the cities not only geographically, but also symbolically.

The change of exhibition venues at the end of August - Bocholt artworks went to Doetinchem and vice versa - was a logistical and creative highlight of the project. Despite some challenges, FREIHEITSSTROM was an inspiring experience for artists, craftspeople and visitors from both countries.

The project was made possible by the commitment of many participants: the artists, the supporting craft businesses and companies as well as numerous organisations on both sides of the border. FREIHEITSSTROM was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the Germany-Netherlands Interreg programme and by the city of Bocholt and the municipality of Doetinchem.

The finissage begins on 8 November at 4.30 pm (admission from 4.00 pm) in the Stadsmuseum Doetinchem, Burg. van Nispenstraat 2. Mayor Mark Boumans will open the event and curator Verena Winter will give a review of the art project. Afterwards, the participating artists will be available for discussions. Anyone interested in attending the finissage must register by 6 November at the latest at the following e-mail address: activiteiten(at)stadsmuseumdoetinchem(dot)nl. The current exhibition "Waar bu'j van?" ("Where do you come from") can also be visited free of charge on this day.
