Day trip to Bocholt's Belgian twin town
To the harbour festival marking the 200th anniversary of the "Zuid-Willemsvaart" canal
The town of Bocholt invites interested residents to join a day trip to its Belgian twin town, Bocholt, on Sunday 30 August 2026. The occasion is the 200th anniversary of the "Zuid-Willemsvaart" canal, which the municipality is celebrating with a major harbour festival.
A varied programme of events awaits visitors around the Passantenhafen. As well as musical entertainment and street performances, visitors can explore the canal in a pedal boat or visit the naval vessel "Liberation%$, which is moored in the harbour. A variety of food and drink options along the riverbank are available to satisfy your appetite.
The day trip also includes a group lunch at a local restaurant in Belgisch-Bocholt. This will be followed by a guided tour of the local brewery museum. Europe's largest brewery museum is housed in a historic brewery belonging to the Martens family and, covering around 4,000 square metres, offers fascinating insights into the region's brewing history.
We'll be travelling by coach. Departure is at 8.30 am from Bocholt railway station at Hindenburgstraße 1. The return journey from Belgisch-Bocholt begins at 5.00 pm. The participation fee is 49 euros per person and includes the coach journey, lunch and admission to the museum. Registrations can be made by 14 August 2026 by emailing petra.taubach(at)bocholt(dot)de. The trip will go ahead provided there is a minimum of 30 participants.
