Use of glass and paper containers during the Christmas period

During the Advent and Christmas period in particular, there is an increase in packaging materials and used glass, which leads to a high frequency of use of the 100 or so depot container locations in the city.

Entsorgungs- und Servicebetrieb Bocholt (ESB) therefore asks citizens to be considerate of each other in order to avoid overcrowded sites and to preserve the peace and quiet of local residents on public holidays. Careful use of the sites will ensure that waste disposal also runs smoothly at the turn of the year.

Experience has shown that the anticipation of the festive season and the presents that come with it bring with them large quantities of cardboard, wrapping paper and glass packaging. Many people use the festive season to make room for new things and dispose of old glass or clothes. In most cases, the Bocholt depot container locations are used very well and in a disciplined manner. Nevertheless, bottlenecks can occur at individual locations, especially during public holidays and at the turn of the year. A clean environment at the containers is not just a question of appearance, but a technical necessity. The containers must be freely accessible so that the ESB's crane lorries can empty them. Deposits of cardboard boxes, sacks or even bulky waste next to the containers prevent them from being emptied directly and unnecessarily tie up labour and time, as separate cleaning teams have to arrive first.

Another important concern for the city council and the ESB is the protection of residents in the vicinity of the collection points. Even if there is a desire to clear the Christmas rubbish mountain quickly, disposal should be completely avoided on Sundays and public holidays. The collection times on weekdays from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm offer sufficient opportunity for disposal, and avoiding lunchtimes is also easy on the nerves of the neighbourhood. Visiting the containers a few days after the festival also helps to equalise the crowds. However, if a container is already full, the ESB asks you to take the glass and paper back with you or find another location.

In order to utilise the available space efficiently, it is helpful to shred cardboard boxes thoroughly before throwing them in. Only folded cardboard boxes tend to unfold again inside the container and thus block space unnecessarily. Please ensure that old clothes are packed in bags, as loose clothes or clothes placed next to them become unusable due to moisture and must be disposed of as residual waste. It is also worth taking a careful look before throwing them in to save any valuables such as house keys, vouchers or receipts that are still needed, as these can no longer be recovered from the containers.

Opening hours of the recycling centre

The recycling centre is a convenient alternative for large-volume cardboard packaging. Unshredded cardboard boxes can be conveniently handed in here. Citizens should note that the recycling centre is closed on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and public holidays. The regular opening hours apply on the other working days: Tuesdays to Fridays from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm and Saturdays from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. The farm is closed on Mondays.
