Bulky Waste Exchange: Proceeds will be donated to the AWO's supported living scheme

Donation of around 1,860 euros // Around 1,000 visitors at the bulky waste exchange

A total of 1,858.95 euros was raised at the bulky waste sale organised by the Bocholt Waste Management and Services Company (ESB) on 5 September 2026. Waste management adviser Petra Tacke has now handed over the proceeds from the bulky waste exchange to Corinna Feldberg on behalf of the AWO's assisted living scheme.

Selling second-hand items meant we could do some good in two ways: reusing the items contributes to sustainability, and the proceeds from the bulky waste exchange are used to organise a Christmas party for the clients of the supported living service in Bocholt.

A wide range of items

Items sold at the bulky waste exchange had previously been accepted at the recycling centre. "These are mainly decorative items, toys and household goods", explains Petra Tacke. "This year we had an unusually large number of jigsaw puzzles, books and pictures in our range, but few large items. The 60 beer tent tables in the ESB vehicle hall were well stocked", she adds. To ensure the items were displayed effectively, the Child Protection Association organised ten volunteers to unpack and set out the items.

Many visitors

As early as half an hour before the hall opened, numerous interested people had gathered outside the gates of the ESB hall. Within the first half hour, the stock had already been largely sold off. AWO volunteers took charge of the sales with great dedication and a knack for haggling, whilst the young people from the THW Youth actively supported the ESB staff with the final tidying up.
