SchreibLand NRW - Writing workshop during the summer holidays

As part of the SchreibLand NRW programme, the city library is inviting all story enthusiasts to a writing workshop. From 11 to 15 August, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., anyone interested will have the opportunity to develop their own story under the guidance of author Akram El-Bahay and then present it.

The SchreibLand NRW project has been promoting the creativity of young authors for over 10 years. In numerous workshops, children and young people are given the opportunity to freely develop their imagination and try their hand at creative writing. This year, Bocholt City Library is once again part of the project and is inviting young people to take part in an exciting writing workshop during the summer holidays. "Writing your own story is something very special - exchanging ideas and inspiring each other makes it even more fun," says Claudia Alders from the city library.

Immerse yourself in the world of stories with Akram El-Bahay

Together with the well-known children's and young adult author Akram El-Bahay, participants embark on an exciting journey into the world of storytelling. With a wealth of experience in fantastic literature and a rich knowledge of myths from a wide range of cultures, El-Bahay guides the young writers through the creative process. He not only shares valuable tips and tricks from his own work, but also provides insights into his personal writing habits.

However, the focus is not just on writing - exciting narrative structures are developed together, characters are created and worlds are built. At the end of the week, the young authors have the opportunity to present their finished works to an audience at a closing event.

Other competitions to take part in

In addition to the on-site workshops, SchreibLand NRW also offers an overview of current writing competitions in German-speaking countries. Here, up-and-coming authors have the chance to submit their texts - and with a bit of luck even get published. One example of this is last year's anniversary competition "federleicht". The best submissions were published by the Literaturbüro NRW in a collection that is available on the SchreibLand NRW website.

Registration for the writing workshop

Registrations for the writing workshop will be accepted until 1 August 2025 by e-mail to stadtbibliothek(at)bocholt(dot)de. A fee of 5 euros will be charged for participation, which can be paid on site. The writing workshop can only take place with a minimum of 7 registrations.
