Reading lion reading competition in the city library decided

Two reading queens crowned in Bocholt // Primary school children impress in the reading lion competition

At this year's Reading Lions reading competition organised by Bocholt City Library, two schoolgirls won over the jury with identical scores. A total of six boys and girls are moving on to the regional competition.

A total of twelve fourth-grade pupils took part in the "Reading Lion" competition on nationwide Reading Aloud Day. They presented their own and unfamiliar texts and showed how much they enjoyed reading. The expert jury was made up of library manager Melanie Tenhumberg, Laura Schneider from the Thalia bookshop, teacher Anja Bucher from Mariengymnasium, Bocholt author Robert Lensing and city press spokesman Nikolaus Kellermann. They were joined by a children's jury consisting of last year's winners Felix Rügamer, Annika Telaar and Lukas Theling.

Gerti Schmeinck from St Bernhard Primary School and Henriette Huls from Clemens August School were jointly crowned reading queens on the basis of equal scores. Third place went to Mia Böggemann from Kreuzschule Mussum. Six participants qualified for the regional competition, which will take place next year. "You did a really great job", praised Claudia Alders from the children's and youth library of the Bocholt public library.

The prizes were presented by Bocholt's mayor Christian Mangen, who congratulated all participants on their strong performance. The reading lion competition is organised every year with the kind support of the bookshops Thalia and Seitenblick.
