Picture book reading with Judith Weber: "The Head Bear Isn't Lazing About!"

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Suderwick branch, Bocholt Municipal Library is hosting a special picture book reading with children's and young adult author Judith Weber on Monday, 28 September 2026, at 3 pm. At the Suderwick Neighbourhood Office, Kerkpatt 9, children aged 4 to 8 can look forward to an interactive, hands-on reading session from the new picture book "Der Kopfübär trödelt doch nicht%$.

For 50 years, the Suderwick branch of Bocholt Municipal Library has been an important venue for socialising, learning and promoting reading. The anniversary is being celebrated with a special event for our youngest readers. The interactive reading session with Judith Weber combines an imaginative story with interactive elements and invites children to listen together, think along with the story and get involved themselves. 

"We've made a point of celebrating our anniversary together with the children. "With Judith Weber and the Kopfübären, our young visitors can look forward to an imaginative, humorous and interactive reading session that whets their appetite for books whilst also fostering the joy of discovering things together," says Christa Hackfort, head of the Suderwick branch, with delight. ""It is particularly important in early childhood to spark curiosity and open up a variety of ways for children to engage with stories, pictures and media. In this way, we make an important contribution to promoting reading and media literacy,"" she explains.

Kobi Kopfübär: A blue bear full of ideas

The reading centres on Kobi Kopfübär, the imaginative main character of the picture book series of the same name. Kobi is blue, brimming with ideas and sees the world in his very own way. When adults don't understand something, he isn't put off by it, but keeps thinking and finds creative solutions.

In "Kobi Kopfübär Isn't Lazing About", the third book in the series, Kobi is looking forward to the return of his grandmother, who is coming home from a round-the-world trip in a campervan. Whilst Kobi is full of anticipation, for his parents the visit means one thing above all else: stress. Kobi is also told to hurry up and stop dawdling. But then he realises that perhaps he isn't the problem at all - it's the clock. It shows 'grown-up time': a time full of hustle and bustle and "'Hurry up!'%$.

Kobi comes up with an extraordinary idea: a 'children's time' clock, designed to make the day slower and more relaxed again. With plenty of imagination, humour and his very own view of the world, he manages to make the adults think and turn the stressful visit into a relaxed family celebration.

Imagination, humour and important messages for children

The picture book series "The Head Bear" tells of the big and small challenges of everyday family life with plenty of warmth and humour. The stories encourage children to trust their own ideas, stand up for themselves and, every now and then, look at the world from a different perspective.

"You're just right, exactly as you are" - this message runs through the adventures of the Head-First Bear. The books help to strengthen children's individuality and self-confidence, whilst also showing how conflicts can be resolved together in creative ways. "The Head-First Bear Isn't Procrastinating" also tackles a theme familiar to many families: time pressure and the importance of making time for one another.

Judith Weber: Readings that actively involve children

Judith Weber is an author of children's and young adult books and lives with her family in the Ruhr region. She writes entertaining non-fiction and children's books and is, amongst other things, the author of the picture book series "Der Kopfübär". Her books combine knowledge, imagination and humour, and encourage children to remain curious and discover the world through their own eyes.

At her multimedia and interactive readings, children are not just listeners but active participants. The interactive reading in Suderwick therefore offers a special opportunity to immerse yourselves together in the world of the Kopfübär and experience the joy of stories and books.
