Autumn holidays at the City Library: creative workshops, gaming and a book fair

A varied autumn half-term programme at the City Library // Workshops, gaming sessions and a book fair // Register online

From 20 to 31 October, the City Library is once again inviting children to take part in a varied programme of activities during the autumn half-term holidays. Children aged 3 and over can look forward to creative workshops, exciting events and plenty of entertainment. During opening hours, anyone interested can also take home second-hand books and other media from the autumn book flea market in exchange for a donation.

"We're really looking forward to an exciting holiday programme with something for every child. Whether it's playing games and solving puzzles together, getting creative, or discovering new stories and digital resources - we want to spark a love of books, stories and media whilst teaching media literacy in a fun way", says Claudia Alders, Head of the Children's and Young People's Library. "The autumn holidays are a wonderful opportunity to try out new things, get creative together and experience the library in a completely different way", she explains.

Creative activities, coding and lots more

The programme includes, amongst other things, craft activities, gaming, a puzzle rally with the Bee-Bots, an escape game and special Halloween-themed activities. Young visitors also have the chance to take part in the TOMMi Children's Software Award and test new apps exclusively.

There are also activities to suit Halloween fans of all ages. In the "'Painting Bags for Halloween Sweets'" workshop, children can design their own personalised bag - perfect for the next round of trick-or-treating. The Halloween lantern-making session also sees creative lanterns being crafted to light up the dark season.

Puzzle and game enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy. In the puzzle rally with the Bee-Bots "The Three Investigators in the Haunted Villa%$, the aim is to work together to solve tricky tasks and safely guide the little programmable robots through the puzzles surrounding the mysterious villa. This activity promotes logical thinking, problem-solving and basic programming skills in a fun way.

Gaming and escape puzzles

For children aged 8 to 12, the holiday programme also features a gaming party. Here, participants can play together, discover digital gaming worlds and chat with other gaming fans. The City Library combines fun and games with the opportunity to engage with digital media in a mindful and creative way.

The escape game featuring Ratte Rieke calls for teamwork: together, the young participants must solve puzzles, uncover clues and, step by step, free themselves from this thrilling adventure. In this way, the City Library's holiday programme combines creative activities, stories, analogue and digital games, as well as initial experiences in using different media.

Book flea market in the entrance hall

Running alongside the holiday programme, a book flea market will once again take place in the entrance hall of the City Library from 20 to 31 October. There, anyone interested can browse through the library's surplus stock and take home well-preserved items in exchange for a donation.

The flea market offers children's and young adult books, novels and various non-fiction titles. The flea market can be visited during the City Library's opening hours. Donations can be handed in at the City Library's circulation desk. This year, the proceeds from the book fair will go to Tafel Bocholt e.V.

Registration for the holiday programme is now available exclusively online

Participation in the events in the City Library's holiday programme is free of charge. This year, all workshops can be booked directly online at anny.eu/de-formal/book/herbstferien-workshops. Further information on the individual events and age groups is available on the City Library's website.

The library team will be happy to answer any questions about the new booking procedure by email at stadtbibliothek(at)bocholt(dot)de or by telephone on 02871 953 22 88.
