6th grade reading competition enters the next round

Regional decision on 6 February 2026 // 12 pupils compete

The 6th grade reading competition enters the next round on 6 February. Bocholt City Library invites 12 pupils to the regional competition at the media centre (Futura) to qualify for the district competition.

The motto of this year's reading competition is "My superpower: Reading aloud". Pupils from Bocholt, Rhede, Reken and Vreden have qualified for the regional competition. Next Friday, Deputy Mayor Gudrun Koppers will honour the three best readers and present them with book vouchers, after which they will go on to the regional competition in Borken on 28 February.

Procedure of the reading competition

First, the children will read from their favourite book for three minutes, then they will read from a previously unknown text for two minutes. This is the same for all participants and is continued at the point where they previously stopped reading. "Of course, it is always particularly exciting to see how the children deal with an unfamiliar text. As nobody knows which book they are reading from, the conditions are the same for everyone", says Claudia Alders, librarian and organiser of the competition. The jury, consisting of representatives from local libraries, schools and the book trade, then decides on the winners based on predetermined criteria.

This year, the following pupils are taking part in the regional competition:

  • Avi Giesen, Rhede Comprehensive School
  • Oskar Höing, Mariengymnasium Bocholt
  • Mia Idziaszek, St. Georg-Gymnasium Bocholt
  • Leonie Kirschner, St Josef's Episcopal Grammar School
  • Marlene Kraft, Albert-Schweitzer-Realschule Bocholt
  • Josefine Lachetta, Mariannhiller Missionare Maria-Veen grammar school
  • Karlotta Mies, Georgianum grammar school, Vreden
  • Lars Osterholt, Hohe Mark Reken secondary school
  • Lukas Rensing, Vreden secondary school
  • Milla Rotterdam, Bocholt comprehensive school
  • Mika Saß, Euregio-Gymnasium Bocholt
  • Ida Storm, Israhel-van-Meckenem-Realschule Bocholt
