Payments to the city of Bocholt: From October, recipient data must be exactly correct
City of Bocholt draws attention to new regulation
Anyone making payments to the city of Bocholt in future should enter the recipient details with particular care. From 5 October 2025, a new EU regulation will come into force that obliges banks to check whether the specified name of the payee matches the corresponding IBAN for every SEPA transfer.
The aim of the so-called Verification of Payee is to make payment transactions more secure, prevent manipulation through incorrect recipient data and avoid incorrect transfers.
For citizens and companies, this means that the transfer can only be carried out without any problems if the specified payee matches the account holder ("City of Bocholt") on file at the bank. If the details do not match, the bank will point this out and it is then up to the payer to decide whether the transfer should still be executed.
The City of Bocholt therefore recommends that you check the recipient details carefully when making transfers and update your own master data regularly to ensure smooth payment transactions.
