Further car park closures required on Berliner Platz for geothermal drilling

15 parking spaces from 15 December // Another 42 parking spaces from 2 January 2026 // Construction site bypass to be set up

Additional car parks on Berliner Platz will be temporarily closed in the coming weeks for the ongoing geothermal drilling work at the town hall. The additional restrictions are necessary in order to be able to carry out the next construction phases safely and on schedule.

Work on the installation of 65 geothermal probes around the town hall is progressing. The next step in the construction logistics now involves additional areas of Berliner Platz. Construction phase 2 will begin on 15 December, making it necessary to close 15 parking spaces in the first roundabout around the obelisk. Access will still be possible, but there will be significantly less parking space available in this area. A further step will follow at the beginning of next year: from 2 January 2026, an additional 42 parking spaces will be removed in the second curve of the square.

At the same time, a construction site bypass will be set up in this area. It will be used to safely carry out the work on the deep boreholes and the necessary cable routes while maintaining traffic on Berliner Platz.

The city of Bocholt asks all road users for their understanding for the restrictions. They are necessary in order to safely and efficiently carry out the complex civil engineering and drilling work as part of the geothermal energy supply. The work is still on schedule.

Despite the work, Berliner Platz can still be used for the Rosenmontag parade and the float formation.
