At the Bocholt Hiking Day , you 'll enjoy a cross-border hiking experience, combining the extraordinary atmosphere of Diepenbrock Moated Castle in the rural Bocholt district of Barlo with a walk into the neighbouring Netherlands.
We walk at a leisurely pace in a relaxed and peaceful natural setting, with no competitive element.
At Bocholt Wandert , you can choose between three different routes.
- The longest route, at around 26 km, is a special highlight as it crosses the border into the Netherlands.
- The 15 km route stays on the German side but also touches on the Netherlands along idyllic paths.
- On the 8 km family walk, young walkers can once again go on a treasure hunt with Bocholt's beech goblin, Bokeltje, and look forward to a little treasure at the end. For the very youngest participants, there's also a soft toy treasure hunt. The 8 km route will be re-routed in 2027.
All routes will be published here shortly before the event.
IT IS IMPORTANT that all walkers take personal responsibility for their own safety and that of other road users, and should take particular care at major road crossings and junctions. The usual traffic and right-of-way rules apply, and as far as possible, there will be no road closures for other road users during Bocholt Wandert.

26 km cross-border hike (Germany-Netherlands)

Start: 08:30 - 09:00 A special highlight of this 26 km walk is that it crosses the border, meaning part of the route takes place in our neighbouring country, the Netherlands. This walk is best suited to more experienced walkers. A very good level of basic fitness is required for the 26 km route. There will be four refreshment stations along the way, where walkers will be provided with a warm snack, amongst other things. You can set off until 09:00. |

Start: 09:30 - 10:00 The 15 km hike, a medium-distance route, is suitable for all walkers who wish to tackle the hiking day as a sporting challenge whilst enjoying the great outdoors. The 15 km route is a moderately difficult hike, requiring a generally good level of fitness. There will be three refreshment stations along the way. You can set off until 10.00. |

| 8 km family walk |
Start: 11.00-11.30 The family walk is designed as an introductory activity for young and old alike, offering a chance to get a taste of hiking and spend a relaxing time together with family or friends in the great outdoors. The 8 km route is a walk that requires no special skills. There is one refreshment stop along the way. Young hikers can go on a treasure hunt along this route with Bokeltje, the beech goblin from Bocholt, whilst the very youngest can take part in a soft toy treasure hunt. You can set off until 11.30 am. |

Bokeltje, the Bocholt beech goblin, will be joining in the fun again for all the little hikers.
Simply pick up your treasure maps at the registration desk before the start, and then you can set off on your treasure hunt!
For our very youngest walkers, we're also offering the soft toy treasure hunt again in 2027.
