"Wenn Mutti früh zur Arbeit geht": Film and discussion with Nadja Klier

Under the title "Wenn Mutti früh zur Arbeit geht - Frauen in der DDR", the Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Bocholt and the EUROPE DIRECT of the City of Bocholt, together with the Regional Office Westphalia of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, invite you to a special evening event.

On Thursday, 6 November 2025, at 6 pm, the film of the same name will be shown in Bocholt's historic town hall (Markt 1) - followed by a discussion with the producer, photographer and author Nadja Klier.

The tense relationship between work and childcare is still a topical issue today, not only in Germany but throughout Europe. A look back at the GDR raises fascinating questions: Was the role of women there really considered a model of equality, or did much of it remain just an ideal?

Nadja Klier, daughter of the well-known GDR civil rights activist and director Freya Klier, joined her mother on a search for clues. In the film, they document conversations with women from different generations who talk about the realities of their lives. Nadja Klier's personal experiences as the child of a working mother and her perceptions in East and West are also included.

In the subsequent discussion with Nadja Klier, visitors have the opportunity to discuss role models, equality and the situation of women then and now.
