You will also benefit from the city's comprehensive health management - with offers such as sporting events, cookery courses and health days.

And best of all: your chances of being taken on after graduation are very good.

What you should bring with you

For the dual study programme in surveying technology, you should fulfil a number of professional and personal requirements - and above all have a desire for a versatile profession with a future.

  • You have a general higher education entrance qualification or an unrestricted entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.

  • You have good spatial awareness and technical skills

  • You are interested in geography, modern IT and graphical data processing.

  • A willingness to learn and perform is a matter of course for you - you want to develop yourself further.

  • Diligence is important to you: you work with concentration and precision.

  • Requirements for becoming a civil servant: Citizenship of an EU member state and a maximum age of 37 years.
  • Previous training or knowledge in the field of surveying is not a must, but a plus.

If you recognise yourself in these points, you have the best prerequisites for a successful start with us.

This is how the programme works

The dual study programme Bachelor of Engineering (Surveying) combines a scientifically sound university degree with practical training at the City of Bocholt. You will start on 1 September each year and will be taken on directly as a civil servant on revocation - with a monthly salary of currently €1,555.68.

On this training programme, you will combine your studies at Bochum University of Applied Sciences in the field of surveying with career training to become a civil servant in the surveying service. In addition to your studies, you will be prepared for work in the public service at the Bergisches Studieninstitut in Wuppertal.

During your studies, you will take on a wide variety of tasks as a surveying inspector candidate - for example in the areas of real estate cadastre, land surveying, property valuation, land readjustment and geodata management. You can apply the content of your studies directly in the practical phases during the semester break.

The dual study programme lasts a total of 43 months and is divided into the following components:

  • Studying at Bochum University of Applied Sciences
In the first semesters, you will learn the technical, mathematical and scientific fundamentals of surveying technology. From the third semester onwards, you will specialise in the subject. You will complete your degree programme in the 7th semester with a practical phase and the Bachelor's thesis.

  • Career training during the lecture-free period
Parallel to your studies, you will complete the career training programme for the surveying service. You will acquire comprehensive legal and administrative knowledge, which is essential for working in the public sector. Some of the training takes place at the Studieninstitut in Wuppertal, but also in practice at the city of Bocholt and other authorities.

The close integration of theory and practice means that you will be optimally prepared for your future tasks: from surveying evaluation and the management of the real estate cadastre to property valuation and the provision of spatial geodata.

Before the official start on 1 September, you will have to complete a four-week pre-study internship at the City of Bocholt, Department of Property and Land Management. This prepares you ideally for the requirements of the degree programme and your future professional practice.
