The job of "road builder" is particularly suitable for people who like to design and work outdoors. Road builder is a recognised training occupation according to the Vocational Training Act and the Crafts Code, which is assigned to the occupational field of construction technology.

The three-year training programme takes place at the waste disposal and service company (ESB) of the city of Bocholt, with vocational training taking place at the Wilhelm-Emmanuel-von-Ketteler vocational school in Münster.

The 1st year of training includes

• the construction of excavation pits and road trenches,
• the installation and connection of supply and disposal systems,
• setting up, securing and clearing construction sites,
• reading and applying drawings and making sketches and
• the production of concrete and reinforced concrete components

The 2nd year of training includes

• the construction of road surfaces, soakaways and drainage channels,
• laying, installing and testing pipes,
• the construction of drainage channels and
• what needs to be observed when excavating earth and when shoring and reinforcing trenches

The 3rd year of training includes

• the production and installation of prefabricated parts for road construction and civil engineering,
• sealing pipe connections and installing drainage pipes,
• carrying out paving work and
• the construction of road surfaces
