How the programme works

During the work placements with Bocholt City Council, the aim is to clarify the tasks, working methods and interrelationships within public administration and to provide practical experience of administrative procedures. The relevant legal provisions are taught in a practice-oriented manner. The four areas of practice are:

  • Organisation and Human Resources
  • Financial management
  • Regulatory administration
  • Service management

The course at the University of Police and Administration in Herne is designed to provide academic training. Over five modules lasting 16-20 weeks, the following subjects, amongst others, are covered:

  • Constitutional law, local government law, general administrative law
  • Business Administration
  • Financial management
  • Social law
  • Psychology & Sociology
  • Social skills training

The preparatory programme culminates in a Bachelor's thesis. Upon passing the examination, you will be awarded the academic degree "Bachelor of Laws%$.

Possible areas of employment after graduation

After successfully completing your studies, you will be employed in a specialist area of the city administration.

  • Preparation of the budget and annual financial statements
  • Assessment and collection of municipal taxes

Department of Public Order

  • Issuing retail trade licences

  • Processing in the area of economic educational assistance & maintenance collection
  • Support in sports matters

Department of Social Affairs

  • Processing of social welfare and basic benefits for jobseekers
  • Processing in the field of action "Subsistence assistance"
