Through the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), the European Union aims to standardise asylum procedures, redefine responsibilities and exercise greater control over migration at the EU's external borders. But do the new regulations actually address the existing challenges?
This lecture examines the key components of the CEAS, contextualises them from legal and political perspectives, and discusses the opportunities, risks and outstanding issues.
