Erika Rosenberg-Band can look back on an eventful life. She was born on 24 June 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her parents, German Jews, had fled there to escape the Nazi regime. She studied literature, languages, history and education in Argentina, Germany and England. In 1990, she met Emilie Schindler, Oskar Schindler's wife, whilst conducting an interview for Deutsche Welle. Erika Rosenberg-Band subsequently wrote several books about the Schindlers, whose heroic rescue of over 1,200 Jewish men and women was made famous worldwide by Steven Spielberg's film "Schindler's List%$. She worked as a lecturer at the Goethe-Institut in Buenos Aires until 2010 and at the Catholic University of Buenos Aires in Argentina until 2011. She also worked as a writer, translator and journalist.
In her lecture, Prof. Rosenberg-Band will speak about her parents' loss of their homeland and its impact on her own life. The subsequent discussion will also focus on the new beginnings of displaced persons in Bocholt after the Second World War, as well as the question of the extent to which, according to scientific findings, the traumas experienced by those displaced from their homelands have been or are being passed on to subsequent generations. The loss of their homeland experienced by refugees and migrants who have arrived in Bocholt in recent years will also be a topic of discussion.
