The Gamma Rats are a dark electro/industrial/avant-garde duo from the Ruhr area that combines 8-bit and other retro sounds with the singer's distinctive rock voice. Aesthetics and lyrics are inspired by cyberpunk and form an unusual mixture that they themselves call "cyberrock".
The melodic, danceable tracks create a dark atmosphere, conjuring up a futuristic, often apocalyptic world.
The music project was founded by Jaana Redflower in 2019. In the same year, the album "Soul Food" was released, soundtrack-heavy and surreal.
The second album was released in February 2021. It contains melodic, danceable, but also very dark pieces.
The Gamma Rats' third album "Digital Dots" has a cyberpunk aesthetic and lyrics and was released in spring 2024. The songs remain dark and electronic, with some containing 8-bit sounds. The digital dots are a fictional drug that technology-loving people swallow without restraint to escape the dreariness of everyday life. The other lyrics are also set in a dystopian world.
A novel was written in parallel to the album.
The Gamma Rats' fourth album "Deep Moods" was released on 1 March 2025. It is again heavier and more experimental than the previous albums. It's best to listen to it on Bandcamp, iTunes or Spotify.
