Behind the scenes at a puppet theatre
A backstage comedy with its share of twists and turns
The Kasper Ensemble is on the brink: their old plays are no longer in demand, and they themselves seem to have fallen out of step with the times. Gretel, who holds the ensemble together behind the scenes, pragmatically demands change from Kasper. A new play is needed! Sensationalist for the masses and, in keeping with demographic change, aimed at adults.
She suggests the bestseller "Fifty Shades...%$.
Kasper puts his foot down. He doesn't want to change. Especially as things aren't as smooth with Gretel as they used to be, and he suspects there's relationship work to be done. Gretel desperately searches for solutions and sets off into the underworld… to the devil's studio.
Meanwhile, Räuber, Seppel and Krokodil start a revolt at home. Their grandmother, who has since developed dementia, is frightened by change and takes refuge in the safety of simple right-wing populist truths. On stage, she calls for the return of the German placenta. The ensemble is now missing all its female characters; the disintegration continues unabated…
This potpourri of German archetypes collides with the 21st century.
