Bastian Stein (trumpet), Pablo Held (piano), Henning Gailing (bass), Jakob Hein (drums)
The Heidelberg-born trumpeter and flugelhorn player Bastian Stein studied in Vienna and Amsterdam; he has been living in Cologne for several years and now teaches as a professor at the renowned Jazz Institute in Berlin. Alongside his own musical projects, he is a much sought-after soloist with the radio big bands of WDR, NDR and HR.
The pianist Pablo Held is regarded as "the figurehead of a young generation of jazz musicians from Germany who, with their masterful command of the most diverse styles of contemporary music - spanning pop, jazz and classical, and ranging from composition to improvisation - have carved out an enormous degree of freedom for themselves." Pablo is also deeply rooted in the jazz tradition and, in addition to the "American Songbook", is exceptionally well versed in the compositions of the great jazz artists such as Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. He has shared the stage with John Scofield, Chris Potter, Dave Liebman and Till Brönner, and has been honoured with numerous awards: the Westfalen Jazz Prize (2009), the WDR Jazz Prize (2011), the State of North Rhine-Westphalia's Sponsorship Award and the SWR Jazz Prize (2014). Alongside Henning Gailing on double bass, the young Cologne-based drummer Jakob Hein will round off the quartet. You can look forward to a fantastic evening of jazz with a top-class line-up!
