80 Years of Friendship between North Rhine-Westphalia and the UK in the 10th Year of Brexit
EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt, in collaboration with the German-British Society of Bocholt e.V., invites you to a lecture event with light refreshments. The event will focus on the friendship between the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the United Kingdom, which has now lasted for 80 years. This year, North Rhine-Westphalia is also celebrating its 80th anniversary. On 2 October 1946, the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament convened for the first time.

The German-British Society and EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt are marking the 80th anniversary of the friendship between North Rhine-Westphalia and the United Kingdom with a special lecture by Dr Birgit Bujard entitled "80 Years of Friendship between North Rhine-Westphalia and the United Kingdom in the 10th BREXIT Year%$.
The focus of the evening will be on how relations between North Rhine-Westphalia and the UK have developed since the end of the Second World War - and what significance they hold for Europe today, ten years after the Brexit referendum.
The event combines historical retrospectives with current political and social perspectives on German-British cooperation. The speaker will examine the UK's role in Europe following Brexit, as well as the opportunities for a continued close partnership between Germany - specifically North Rhine-Westphalia - and the UK. Dr Birgit Bujard is a member of the Team EUROPE DIRECT speakers' pool.
The event is supported by the 'Europa-Schecks' state initiative of the Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media, and Head of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia
Refreshments will reflect the region of Bocholt's twin town, Rossendale.
