To mark the anniversary, the band is dusting off their own songs and bringing together both worlds: belly to belly & Mama Mucke. As well as a 'belly' best-of spanning 20 years, visitors can look forward to stories, anecdotes and memories from two decades of band life. Afterwards, Mama Mucke will take over and turn the anniversary into a huge party.
Once a gang of five rebellious teenagers. Now family men. In between lie 20 years of band history with belly to belly.
When belly to belly was formed in 2006, the music scene was a very different place. Songs were burned onto CDs, dates were arranged via text message and musicians were sought through classified adverts. When a 16-year-old guitarist was looking for bandmates for a rock band, nobody thought about a 20th anniversary - let alone lifelong friendships. Social media played hardly any role. They simply met up for rehearsals - in the basement of the Bocholt Post office. It was loud right from the start. It got better with time.
On Saturday, 27 February 2027, belly to belly will return to the Alte Molkerei cultural venue for a special anniversary concert, taking the audience on a journey through two decades of the band's history.
The early days were modest: the first gig lasted barely half an hour, with the band playing cover versions and their first original songs to a small audience. Their debut album "Las Vegas", released in 2013, was their first collection of original tracks. Four years later, "All Inclusive" followed - a more mature album featuring German-language rock blending punk, funk and alternative. Songs such as "Könige vom Strand", "Festival", "5:33 Uhr", "Polly Brown" and "Las Vegas" tell stories of partying, failure, wanderlust and growing up.
The band worked their way up from small basements and pubs to large open-air stages, won the Trossekult band contest and shared the stage with artists such as Joris, Steffi Stephans and Sondaschule.
Since 2011, the line-up of belly to belly has remained unchanged: Björn Kirmse, Yannick Ziemons, Marcel Holz, Marcel Ziemons and Sebastian Grunden. What started as a youth band became a group of five close friends. In 2018, the cover project 'Mama Mucke' was finally launched, which quickly proved a hit with organisers and audiences alike. Performing the biggest hits of the 90s and 2000s, this project became a second musical home for them, whilst 'belly to belly' had taken a back seat for the past few years for the five friends and fathers due to time constraints.
A band was born from a classified advert. Friendships for life grew from a band. And for one evening, it will once again become exactly what it all began with: five friends, infectious energy and a wealth of passion for great rock music!
