Shaping the digital future
We are all becoming increasingly digital. New services and technologies permeate almost every area of daily life and business. New opportunities for coexistence and cooperation, social participation and economic success are developing. The basis for this are high-performance broadband networks, which must be available to private households, social institutions and businesses.
In Bocholt, the availability of gigabit-capable connections (incl. cable TV) is about 72 percent (as of 12/2021). In order to promote the expansion of broadband networks alongside the telecommunications providers' own commercial initiatives, the federal government and the state of NRW provide support through various funding programmes. From 2019 to 2021, a subsidised broadband expansion could thus already take place in Bocholt for connections with a connection of less than 30 Mbit/s in download.
Funding programme according to the NRW school guidelines
Recipient group: Primary schools
The Bocholt primary schools that are still missing will also receive a broadband connection as part of a funding project. This is a state subsidy in accordance with the NRW school guidelines. The notice of approval has been available since the end of November 2022, so that the preparations for a total of 12 primary schools with 14 locations are being driven forward together with Bocholter Energie- und Wasserversorgung GmbH. The implementation of these connections is planned for 2023.
